Just when I thought it was safe to come out of my garden shed…….!\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The house has now had its final inspection,
\nJust back from the docs, I’ve had my injection.
\nSo we\u2019re all geared up now for what\u2019s in store,
\nThe annual visit of the mother-in-law!<\/p>\n

Three weeks is how long she usually stays;
\nThat\u2019s a very long time, it’s twenty one days!
\nWhen each day can seem more like a week;
\nIt\u2019s an awful long time to watch how I speak.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s not too bad really, and at ninety years old
\nIt\u2019s amazing how much whiskey she is able to hold;
\n(And it’s my whiskey she\u2019s drinking, the Famous Grouse,
\nAn appropriate name when she\u2019s in the house!).<\/p>\n

She arrives on Monday on a budget airline,
\nHer broomstick\u2019s been sold, on E-bay, online.
\nFar too old anyway for that form of travel,
\nWith the wind in her hair, her perm would unravel.<\/p>\n

Her room is all ready, the bed has been made,
\nIt hasn’t been used since the last time she stayed;
\nWe left it alone so that the spiders could breed;
\nWell she frightens me, so I\u2019m returning the deed!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve just painted the cauldron, so now she can brew
\nHer potions and lotions, her toad and newt stew;
\nIt\u2019s a specialty of hers, of which she is fond;
\nAnd that reminds me, I must look for her wand.<\/p>\n

I do love her really, she so sweet and so kind,
\nThe best mother-in-law that you\u2019ll ever find;
\nThat is, of course, while she\u2019s a long way away,
\nIt\u2019s a whole different ball game when she comes to stay.<\/p>\n

Not long now! I’m having a panic attack;
\nNeed calming down with a good slug of Jack.
\nThere, I can see her now getting off the plane,
\nWearing that black pointed hat once again!<\/p>\n
