Is a writer an artist? I like to think so, but every once in a while I wish for a more physical artistic skill, sometimes I just wish I could paint…<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

How I wish I could paint, how I wish I could capture
\nOn canvas those sights that fill me with rapture.
\nSuch wonders that have the power to evoke,
\nIf I could record them with an artist\u2019s brushstroke.<\/p>\n

Oh! how I wish I could hue, from some solid rock,
\nA statue of a goddess, to which crowds would flock,
\nAnd marvel at my sculpture, how proud I would be,
\nThere for all time, a reminder of me.<\/p>\n

I wish I could turn on a potter\u2019s wheel,
\nA lump of wet clay, crafting purely by feel,
\nThen firing that clay, creating fine pottery.
\nHow I wish I could do that, how I wish that was me.<\/p>\n

I wish I could shape glass held over a fire,
\nUsing a skill of which I\u2019d never tire.
\nCreating fine glassware with an artist\u2019s touch,
\nI know I would like that so very much<\/p>\n

I wish I could sit down in front of the keys
\nAnd play a piano with consummate ease.
\nMaybe some jazz, or maybe some blues,
\nNow that is an art I would certainly choose<\/p>\n

I wish I could sing, a voice full of emotion,
\nHave sell out world tours, cross every ocean.
\nA voice to be savoured by all different ages;
\nAnd in the music press filling so many pages.<\/p>\n

But I have been blessed with a much different skill,
\nNo concert hall or gallery will I ever fill;
\nIt’s a vivid imagination, at work all the time,
\nComposing my verse, rhyme after rhyme.<\/p>\n
