“Apathy is the glove into which evil slips its hand”\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>
\nBodie Thoene<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the story of our apathy,
\nThat I watch unfold,
\nI\u2019ve written it in rhyme,
\nThat\u2019s how my stories are told;
\nIt\u2019s a story of how
\nWe succumb to pretence,
\nAnd how fear and ignorance
\nDefeats common sense.<\/p>\n

A story about how privacy
\nAnd freedom of speech,
\nWill soon be just memories,
\nTaken out of our reach;
\nOf how with indifference
\nWe are now so infected,
\nAnd of how we\u2019ve become
\nSo politically corrected.<\/p>\n

A story of children
\nBeing schooled, not educated,
\nCaught when they’re young,
\nTheir minds impregnated;
\nA story of democracy
\nBrought to its knees,
\nBeing ruled by world bodies,
\nGoverned by appointees.<\/p>\n

A story of falsehoods,
\nBy politicians conceived;
\nLike man-made global warming,
\nHow is that ever believed?
\nBrainwashed by propaganda,
\nThe lack of understanding shows,
\nSo many now spellbound
\nBy the emperor\u2019s new clothes.<\/p>\n

An Orwellian future
\nBrought on by this apathy;
\nOur governments not controlled
\nIn the way they should be.
\nIncreasingly we\u2019re indoctrinated
\nInto a minority’s way of thinking,
\nThe foundations of our culture
\nInto the mire slowly sinking.<\/p>\n

A reflection of our time
\nOf achievements reversed,
\nHow by our ambivalence
\nWe seemed to be cursed,
\nOur liberty just grains of sand,
\nThrough careless hands poured,
\nWe\u2019ve abandoned life\u2019s anchors,
\nSo how are we secured?<\/p>\n

To many out there
\nMy story just won\u2019t appeal,
\nDumbed down and confused,
\nCan\u2019t tell the false from the real;
\nBut my story\u2019s no fiction,
\nIt grieves me to say,
\nIt’s the story of our apathy,
\nIt’s “A Story About Today\u201d.<\/p>\n
